Although my results in the "VARK" test shows that I'm the kinesthetic type of a student, I still believe that I'm a more visual person when it comes to learning and understanding things in school. however, I don't deny that I maybe kinesthetic in Cretan areas outside the field of learning and education which is not our topic in the meantime.
Being a kinesthetic person or a visual person or even a read/write person, thats all Ok with me as long as I'm not an Aural person!! I think it's an old fashioned technique and a boring one as well , it reminds me of the time when people used to listen to the radio with nothing to stare at , and its exactly the same thing when listing to long boring traditional lectures in my opinion ;)
There are many deferent kinds of people with many deferent kinds of learning styles that each individual has, but that doesn't mean that you're stuck with it forever. these styles can change in deferent stages of life, for example your style right now is not the same in 5 or 10 years. It's very important for a student to know what kind of a learner he/she is, it makes it easer for the student to know in what way he/she is more likely to receive information the right way instead of trying other ways that may make it difficult or consume a lot of time to receive the information they need.
